new year's meme

thanks to my lovely friend jen at miss attitude i've decided to celebrate the changing of the guard by participate in a new year's meme:

1. what did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?
i got my first big editorial job with marie claire and then also got to shoot for wired. i was offered my first major advertising bid. i moved in with josh (long-term boyfriend) and learned how to share toothpaste. i assigned myself work regularly instead of sporadically and kept my portfolio fresh. i learned how to make mozzarella from scratch. i fed a 2-day-old baby cow.

2. did you keep your new year’s resolutions and will you make more for next year?
i have never made specific resolutions however i did make progress on my personal improvement goals.

3. did anyone close to you give birth?
yes, lovely baby deja was born to my friends claire and garret only a few weeks ago.

4. did anyone close to you die?
thankfully no.

5. what countries did you visit?
turks and caicos in the caribbean. it was positively yummy!

6. what would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
regular work... hello, gods of the failing economy, are you listening?

7. what dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

there are ups and downs but no big ones come to mind.

10. did you suffer illness or injury?
thankfully no.

11. what was the best thing you bought?
hmm that's tough. i bought a beautiful custom handmade portfolio to replace the one that was stolen in dec. 07 and an epson 3800 to match. i also finally got dining chairs and a functional all-in-one printer (you have no idea how difficult it was to find one that works on a network AND with a mac!) i also acquired some amazing photography books for my collection.

12. whose behavior merited celebration?
a number of my fellow colleagues had big years and they all deserve congratulations.

13. whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
i take the fifth.

14. where did most of your money go?
rent and food.

15. what did you get really excited about?
i love this question since i get excited about a lot of things! off the top of my head: traveling across the country for the marie claire shoot, having amazing feedback on my book from a ton of heavy hitters in nyc and la, being in san francisco which means no more commuting, my own office, and living with josh, seeing helmut newton's sumo in person, working with super-talented deb dapolito and cheryl dailey in addition to a host of wonderful models, starting my new fine art projects and hopefully having some shows in 2009.

i got lucky this year! here are a few of the many: chloe aftel, jen straw, elizabeth grivas, jim balwdin

36. what is a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
i am what i practice - the more i think about positive things the less room there is for negativity.

37. a quote that fits the year:
"i believe in maniacs. i believe in type As. i believe that you've got to love your work so much that it is all you want to do. i believe you must betray your mistress for your work, you betray your wife for your work; i believe that she must betray you for her work. i believe that work is the one thing in the world that never betrays you, that lasts. if i were going to be a politician, if i were going to be a scientist, i would do it every day. i wouldn't wait for monday. i don't believe in weekends." -avedon

happy new year!
